I live, work, and play in Toronto on the traditional and unceded land of many indigenous nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. Toronto is now home to many diverse Métis, Inuit and First Nations peoples. Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands.

The people living on this land for thousands upon thousands of years represent many and varied cultures, systems of government and languages, as well as unique musical traditions, musical spiritual practices and musical healthcare practices. We see these musical traditions today being practised in their historical and traditional contexts as well as in contexts of entertainment, expression, activism and identity. I encourage you to explore and amplify some of the music that is being created by indigenous voices today, and learn about how connecting with that music may support the spirit in which I offer this land acknowledgement.
